In case you were wondering…

Below are answers to some frequently asked questions we’ve been getting. The first section is General Wedding Information. The second is questions for all our awesome guests coming in from Out-of-Town (or anyone who wants my take on cool things to eat and do in L.A.). Can’t wait to celebrate with you!

You can visit Jon’s website to see his answers too!

General Information

  • While Jon and I will be up WAAY too early getting ready, signing the ketubah, and taking pictures, you should feel free to have a lie in and arrive at Fig House at 5pm! Don’t be late as we’ll have welcome drinks waiting for you (rose bubbly) and want to start the ceremony as soon as possible – so we can get married and get to the party!

Dinner, dancing, cake, more food, and some excellent libations will follow, until we turn into pumpkins at 11pm sharp.

  • Yeah, it sounded early to us too, so we have an official unofficial after party planned. If you’re up to staying up, join us at Highland Park Bowl after Fig House kicks us out. It’s just around the corner (a 5 minute drive away from Fig House at 5621 N Figueroa Street) and they have late night pizza, French fries, more great drinks, sometimes live music, and bowling! We don’t have a lane reserved, but since you’re kicking it with the bride and groom, we’re pretty sure that if we want to bowl, we’ll be able to bowl (and if not, did you read about the pizza, French fries, drinks, and potential for live music?!).

  • Well, at Highland Park bowl, you’re on your own – but there is abundant street parking and plenty of public parking lots. At Fig House, we have valet parking set for you, so don’t worry about driving around the neighborhood looking for a spot – we have you covered!

And FYI, if you do valet park at Fig House and decide to join us at Highland Park Bowl, you will need to retrieve your car from valet before heading to HPB.

  • Neither of us are changing our names – we like them too much and are quite attached to them! So it’ll still be Mr. Jonathan White and Ms. Paige Feldman after we tie the knot.

  • After an extensive decision process that involved narrowing down a list of 30 different destinations and each of us giving a presentation on one of the top two… We’re heading to France! We’ll start in Normandy for some World War II history (touring the D-Day beaches) and hard cider (Normandy is the hard cider capital of France and they have plentiful cideries around the area)! Next is a nice long stint in Paris for Michelin star restaurants, museums, picnics in Montmartre, strolls along the Seine, and touring the Catacombs. After that, we’ll be going to Burgundy for a few days of wine tasting, mustard tasting (Dijon, like the mustard, is the capital of the region!), and bicycle tours through vineyards. Finally, because we couldn’t resist (and it’s only a 3 hour train ride away), we’ll be moseying over to Geneva, Switzerland for cheese, chocolate, watches, and sunset views over Lake Geneva! We’re so excited for this European adventure. I’m especially excited because I’ll get to speak a bunch of French for 2 weeks and have been taking conversation classes to brush up on my skills.

  • While presents aren’t necessary, expected, or required, we appreciate your generosity and desire to gift us something in celebration of our marriage. I’ve included a link to all our registries below this block of questions.

We are registered at Crate & Barrel for a lot of housewares, with Bed, Bath & Beyond, and Williams Sonoma picking up the slack. West Elm has some home furnishings we’re really into. And WithJoy.com is where you can find our honeymoon registry if you’d like to contribute to us gorging ourselves on croissants, wine, haute cuisine, or arguably the best falafel in Europe (we’re staying in the Jewish quarter in Paris, around the corner from L’As du Falafel).

  • We were careful to register only for things we’d actually want and use, so all gifts are so genuinely appreciated (though again, not required or expected), but if you’re looking for some guidance, I’d say look at these two things:

The Crate & Barrel group gift fund for the Wusthof knife block. Jon and I love cooking and, with the exception of the chef’s knife I bought in Japan a few years back, I’m still using knives I bought in 2003 and they’re starting to show their age. It would be great to upgrade.

The honeymoon fund. Jon and I are so excited for our trip to France (and Switzerland) and it would make it extra special to know that we’re able to experience great food, tours of historic places, excellent drinks, and any other manner of touristy things in part due to the generosity of our family and friends.

  • We want everyone to be and stay safe and healthy. To that end, our policy, as well as the policy of the venue and vendors is that everyone who attends the wedding is required to be fully vaccinated (and ideally boosted) against COVID-19.

If for some reason you cannot be vaccinated, we ask that you bring and wear a mask, so we can all celebrate safely.

If, on the day of the wedding, you don’t feel well, we respectfully ask that you stay home to ensure no one else gets sick AND so we can celebrate with you safely (at a later date) as soon as possible.

Thanks so much in advance for respecting these requests!

For Out-of-Towners

  • Los Angeles is notoriously difficult to get around without a car (though that’s changing! Our metro is expanding)! If you’re planning on coming to L.A. for the wedding and the wedding only, if you’re staying at the Westin Pasadena or another hotel near the venue, we’ve purposely made it easy for you. The Westin Pasadena is just a 10 minute Uber or Lyft away from Fig House, we have a bus available to take you to the rehearsal dinner if you’re going, and the Sunday brunch is in the Westin Pasadena! Easy.

If you’re planning on staying in L.A. longer than the quick weekend, are staying outside of the Highland Park/Pasadena area, or want to explore the city, while you can Uber or Lyft everywhere, a car would be the easiest way for you to get around (especially in a city with such a large geographic footprint, those rideshare fees can easily add up). If you do rent a car, we have valet provided at Fig House, so no worries on finding parking!

  • We have a bus available for those of you who are staying at the Westin Pasadena and are going to the rehearsal dinner. If you checked “bus me to the beach!” on your RSVP card, we’ve got a spot reserved for you on board. Buses leave from the Westin Pasadena at 4:30pm on Friday. If you didn’t think you’d need to take the bus, but now want to, please let me know ASAP and we can count you in.

  • Hiking is one thing that separates the tourists from the residents – us Angelenos love to explore nature right in our backyards. For an easy up and back (or a hard one if you take the stairs), Runyon Canyon is a great bet (though parking can be a bit difficult). Griffith Park is a great hiking spot as well, and is more convenient to Pasadena and Highland Park.

If you want to go to the beach to do more than dip a toe in and head back to your car, Venice and Santa Monica Beaches. Instead, go to Will Rogers State Beach, just a touch north of Santa Monica, or, if you have all day, Zuma Beach in Malibu is where it’s at.

And after all that hiking and ocean, drive around and look for people setting up a taco stand in a parking lot at night. It might look sketchy, but it’s not. Street tacos are one of the best treats we have in the city. If you’re still skeptical, look for a spot with a line (it won’t take long). If you’re really skeptical, there’s a truck that sets up shop at a Mobil station on Vine and Santa Monica. Start there – you won’t regret it.

  • The Warner Brothers Studio tour is the best film studio tour in Los Angeles – sure, you can go to Universal Studios, but their backlot tour is part of an amusement park. The WB will take you around working sound stages, show you Batmobiles, the Friends set, and – my personal favorite – costumes from Casablanca.

Closer to the hotel, there’s the Huntington Library, a beautiful, expansive botanical garden. It’s worth a visit and stroll.

I also love The Academy Museum and, across the street, The Petersen Automotive Museum. It’s all about cars and is even fun for me, and I’m whatever the opposite of a gearhead is.

  • This is such a difficult question! I LOVE food and L.A. has one of the greatest food scenes anywhere. If you want a personal recommendation, hit me up. But in general:

Near the hotel, I’d recommend Homestate (Tex-Mex tacos), Sugarfish (omakase sushi), U-Street Pizza for wood-fired pizza, and its sister restaurant Union (upscale Italian).

Throughout the city, there are SO many options. Here are a few of my favorites:

    Thai

Luv2Eat Thai – a hole in the wall at a strip mall on Sunset Blvd. with amazing curry (Massaman, Pineapple, and Panang are my favorites)

Jitlada Thai – the best pad thai in the city

Chao Krung – amazing Northern Thai cuisine. Their Khao Soi is on point!

    Korean

Jjukku Jjukku if you want great KBBQ without a wait

Hae Jang Chon for KBBQ if you don’t mind a wait (that could be up to 2 hours) because it is WORTH it.

Sun Non Dang if you want Korean hot pot covered in mozzarella cheese and melted with a blowtorch tableside (you want it).

    Ramen

    Tsujita on Sawtelle

    Daikokuya in Little Tokyo

    Tatsu on Melrose

    Kai Ramen on La Cienega

    Diner Food

Johnny’s Pastrami in Culver City for old school pastrami and milkshakes in the metal cups

Irv’s Burgers on Santa Monica for pastrami and burgers

Father’s Office in Santa Monica and Culver City. Trust me: get the Office burger.

Pink’s on La Brea – there’s a reason this classic hot dog joint still has lines out the door

Roscoe’s Chicken and Waffles: where the craze started. They still serve the best chicken & waffles in town!

If you just want fried chicken, though, go to Honey’s Kettle in Culver City. Their chicken is perfectly fried and served with honey and hot sauce. Also, make sure to get a blueberry biscuit (if they haven’t sold out of them yet)!

Mariscos Jalisco – It’s a food truck that was featured on Netflix’s show Ugly Delicious. Find where the truck is parked and get a shrimp tostada, stat!

  • For coffee close to the hotel, check out Antigua Coffee House. They make horchata in house and have most excellent breakfast sandwiches. Jon and I discovered them before taking a metal forging class at Adam’s Forge nearby.

If you’re looking for cocktails, though, we love Angel City Brewery for beer (it’s where we got our engagement photos taken!) and Death & Co for craft cocktails. Or if you want a more bespoke experience, in Hollywood, the Library Bar at the Roosevelt Hotel is super fun – you list flavors and they’ll craft a cocktail just for you. The Wellesbourne in West L.A. will also do that, and it’s close to one of our favorite places for late night bites: The Backhouse, a Japanese Izakaya!

  • If you can’t do it all this time, come back soon! We’ll be happy to play tour guide and give more recommendations! For now, though, we’re excited you’re coming to celebrate our wedding and can’t wait to see you there!
